Change of watch parades occur at the Stations at 0900 hours and 1800 hours each day and are done in accordance with Station Notice No.--- of----.
Crews are detailed for duty on specific appliances and their names recorded on the Station Duty Sheet.
The officer/incharge, taking over an appliance at the beginning of a tour of duty, is responsible for the readiness of the appliance and equipment to respond to any emergency. (The responsible officer may check them personally or delegate the duty to the driver).
On coming drivers must check the level of the oil, fuel and water, the functioning of the lights and audible warning devices.
Reports on the readiness of the appliances and equipment must be logged in the appropriate Record Books and the Station Diary.
Defects must be reported promptly to the incharge of the Watch and the Engineering Section.
Breathing Apparatus wearers must check their sets in accordance with the ‘Fire Service Drill Book’ and record the cylinder pressure in the appropriate record book.
Watch Room sentries at Stations are detailed for duty between the hours of 0900hours and 1800hours. However, when detailed during the hours of 1800hours and 0900hours, the first period would be 1800 to 2000hours after which the sentries would be changed every two hours. (Drivers are detailed for sentry duty during 0400 hours and 0600hours to allow them a longer rest so that they will be alert and rested when driving the appliance to an emergency).
Gate Sentries at Fire Service Headquarters are changed and paraded to and from their post every three hours during the tour of duty 0900 to 1800 hours.
